Filmed in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Heads May Roll is a conversation between filmmaker Katerina Suvorova and fellow activist and writer Moldiyar Yergebekov. Together the pair discuss subjects explored in Suvorova’s forthcoming feature films One Year Chronicles and Qyz Bolsyn (May It Be A Girl) and draw attention to the daily acts of defiance performed by citizens demanding social change in Kazakhstan. Due to the current political situation in Kazakhstan and out of safety reasons it is not possible to screen Katerina Suvorova’s new film One Year Chronicles during the festival programme. We have decided with Katerina to show an excerpt of Suvorova’s commissioned work for transmediale - Heads May Roll. Heads May Roll was commissioned by transmediale 2021–22 and was part of the remote. response. request. film programme at transmediale studio in fall 2021. With support by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Kazakhstan. Russian translation by Duman Nursila. With support by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
